Secondary Trauma Resilience
Trauma Resilience for Helping Professionals and First Responders
“Your job sounds terrible!” “I don’t know how you can do this work!” “You are such a hero!”
Have you heard any of these statements before or a combination of all three?
The greater community, and even well-intentioned loved ones, often do not understand our motivations to serve others. In addition, our loved ones can be challenged when it comes to supporting us through this work.
Witnessing the suffering of others can leave us depleted, angry, anxious, and at times, hopeless.
Our minds and bodies are responding to these experiences in the same way those we are serving are experiencing their first-hand trauma. We may feel hypervigilant, experience nightmares, and numb out.
While we are skilled in caring for others, we are often not the best at caring for ourselves.
I understand the value in having a support system to heal from secondary trauma and renew enthusiasm for a career serving others.
If the weight of this work is too heavy right now, let’s connect. Let’s create space for you to be able to process those experiences both with clients and organizations, and create the resiliency you need to continue the work.
