EMDR
Trauma can have a lasting impact on our perception of our world and ourselves. Experiences of trauma can leave us stuck in distressing thoughts, feelings, and body sensations.
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a research-based therapeutic technique used to heal experiences of trauma and anxiety. EMDR integrates various treatment perspectives, such as mindfulness and cognitive behavioral therapy.
During EMDR sessions, a client will hold in mind a traumatic experience while doing back and forth eye movements. This impacts how the brain reorganizes the traumatic experience. Following a successful EMDR session, a client may no longer relieve the thoughts, feelings and sensations of the original experience.
EMDR can lead to positive and healthy perceptions of self and create genuine feelings of hope and resilience from traumatic events.
